Freshly Made Sketches #647

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #647!

I saw a quilt in super talented Clean Team Designer Karren Johnson's fabulous sketch this week so that had me poking through my stash of patterned paper pads. Wanting something bright and happy, I paired a couple of Jen Hadfield pieces with a green gingham from My Favorite Things.

The papers were cut with stitched rectangle dies with the intention to adjust them to fit together to replicate the sketch. When I laid them out, I liked the way they overlapped and decided to adher them in place as is.

The Ellen Hutson Oval Hoops die is cut from Lawn Fawn woodgrain paper and adhered over an oval based stamped with an Avery Elle Sending You sentiment. This sentiment hoop is popped up over the rectangle pieces. A scatter of sequins finish off the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #579

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #579!

Jen Timko is the Clean Team designer behind the fabulous sketch this week! I cut a larger MFT Mini Scalloped Stitched Oval first before deciding to go a size smaller and extending the oval visually by surrounding it with a rainbow of leaf die cuts.

To keep things simple, one die was used to cut five leaves in rainbow colors and a second one used to cut the same colors in a lighter shade. An oval was penciled onto the panel and the darker die cuts spaced around it first and the the lighter die cuts filled in the space between them.

The Simon Says Stamp Sending Happy Thoughts sentiment is stamped onto the oval and the smaller sentiment head embossed and added. The sentiment oval looked a little bare, so a flower die cut was added and surrounded by a few sequins. More sequins were scattered around the rainbow oval before the center panel was popped up over them.

Freshly Made Sketches #578

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #578!

I am hosting the sketch this week and came up with something simple that allows a lot of creative leeway for our card making friends!

I started with the PTI Penned Elegance sentiment and Simply Graphic Full Flowers (duo fleurs pleines) dies that remind me of the orange California poppies that were on their way to an all out superbloom again this year until another atmospheric river hit us.

For a bit of interest, the orange panel is embossed with Taylored Expressions Rosy Posey folder, a section cut out and the two remaining pieces popped up over the card base. A couple of white flowers are added to the channel for even more texture and interest.

Freshly Made Sketches #531

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #531!

I had fun with Clean Team designer Linda Callahan's sketch this week! A few people in my life have been sick with good old fashioned colds lately so I thought a Get Well card was needed and Linda's horizontal lines had me thinking of the Martha Stewart Drippy Goo edge punch.

The green edge was cut first and then a line of thin washi tape added to make the second line. A Taylored Expressions Wheely Great sentiment is stamped on the white panel and a couple images from PTI Funky Florals provide one of the squares from the sketch. The gooey bugs are made with Lawn Fawn Monster Mash images and colored with Copic Markers.

Freshly Made Sketches #523

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #523!

I had an idea for the three circle elements in this great sketch from Jennifer Brum so ventured into the craft room for the first time since mid-December.

The Lawn Fawn Chit Chat stamps and dies are used to make a trio of speech bubbles that are lined up on an MFT frame die cut.

The center of the frame is heart embossed for interest and another sweet sentiment from Altenew Figure Effects finishes off the multiple sentiments.

My left eye has kept me out of the craft room and on restricted activities for weeks so it feels great to finally inch toward normal again!

Freshly Made Sketches #473

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #473!

I absolutely adore Amy's fun sketch this week! While cleaning out the office a few weeks ago a ran across a couple pieces of the prettiest Altenew wide washi Joyce Mehrberg shared with me during one of our long ago crafting dates. I knew this was going to be the star of my design.

The washi was added to a white panel and die cut with a stitched edge rectangle. A couple linen card stock panels are cut as well, with the smaller one also used to cut the washi panel into three pieces. After the Altenew Thinking of You sentiment was added in dark blue, the panels are assembled and added to an indigo card base.

I love the contrast between the smooth washi and linen texture.

Freshly Made Sketches #457

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #457!

Linda has give us a great layered design to work with this week! I have been wanting to use The Stamp Market Greenery dies for a while and thought this center panel would be a great place to showcase them.

I cut a few die cuts in fall colors and played around a bit with layering them on the linen embossed panel. My first plan was to dry emboss the second panel until I became distracted by a discarded stenciled panel leftover from another project. The stenciled panel is cut down to fit the sketch and the MFT Essential Sentiments message is heat embossed and popped up over the greenery.

Freshly Made Sketches #448

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #448!

Jennifer Brum has designed our sketch this week and I'm loving the diagonal panel! As you can see, I used it as a sentiment strip, heating embossing a Simon Says Stamp Sending & Wishing sentiment on vellum.

The vellum strip is wrapped around a paper quilt created using patterned paper scraps, a WPlus9 Quilt Cuts 2 die and MFT Chalkboard frame dies.

Freshly Made Sketches #445

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #445!

Jen Mitchell has designed a really fun sketch for us this week! I wanted a tone-on-tone subtle circle element and created it by layering a cloud stencil over a circle stencil, blending an aqua ink that matches the cardstock.

A Pretty Pink Posh Encouraging Greetings is stamped in teal and then a line of Spellbinders Birds on a Wire added. Two of the birds are popped up with foam adhesive for a bit of interest.

Freshly Made Sketches #439

I love the tilted panels in Narelle's terrific design for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches. They reminded me of the The Stamp Market Scripty Heart die so I pulled it out while thinking about what kind of card to make.

Two hearts are layered on the heart embossed panel with the top heart popped up on the sides and then the MFT Essential Sentiments heat embossed strip is popped up over them.

Freshly Made Sketches #422

Clean Team designer Linda Callahan has given us a terrific sketch this week!

I pulled out a few panel dies and a Memory Box Small Alder Tree die cut to layer for my design. Although I love the twine bow in the sketch, it was fighting with the tree branches, so I replaced it with the vertical lines of a woodgrain embossing folder.

The MFT Greetings and Salutations sentiment is heat embossed on a black strip to finish the card.

CASology Challenge #356: FAITH

Welcome to CASology #356!

I love how our cue word this week can be used for everything from a religious holiday celebration to encouraging a friend going through a difficult time!

I took another of my Taylored Expressions masking stencils, layered it with a MFT Sunray stencil and inked with Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed and Marmalade Spice Distress Inks to get the circle sun base for the PTI Hello Sunshine sentiment.

A few Pretty Pink Posh jewels finish the card with a bit of sparkle.

Check out the great design team cards!

CASology Week 327: CLOUDY

Welcome to Week 327 at CASology!

I love when a cue word has several meanings and really hope some of you work with an idea I didn't think about until after making my card, which is to use vellum or another translucent material.

This super simple Get Well card has a sun peaking through a pair of Memory Box Puffy Cloud die cuts on a blue sky background.

The simple sentiment is another from my favourite MFT Essential Sentiments stamp set.

The design team has terrific cards this week!

CASology Week 316: PUNCTUATION

Welcome to Week 316 at CASology!

Do you love your punctuation marks as much as I do? Whether you use them to create an emoji image, add emphasis to a sentiment, highlight a quote or create a shaped panel there are endless ways to be inspired by punctuation.

I was inspired to use brackets as a design element and cut the PTI Half & Half die twice and layered them to get the narrow black edge. The Big Hugs sentiment was added and the panel wrapped around a rectangular panel so that the bracket edge is popped up on the front and the other end adhered flush to the back.

To reinforce the bracket design element, I pulled out an ancient  Pink Paislee embellishment bracket and colored it with Copic markers.

CASology Week 312: HEAL

Welcome to Week 312 at CASology!

There are many different ways to take this cue word and I anticipate a gallery full of sympathy and get well cards, along with a few related to new shoes!

I pulled out Papertrey Ink's Stuck On You stamps and dies and die cut three vellum bandages. The back of the die cuts were colored with a Copic R20 marker and a white center panel was adhered. The sentiments and a vellum heart were added to the front of the bandages before they were adhered to the card front.

I always have a couple of bandages in my wallet and one saved the day on a recent vacation when my shoe fell apart.

The design team has terrific cards this week!
