CASology Week 204: ROW

Welcome to Week 204 at CASology!

We have another terrific word this week that has so many meanings. I'll admit the first thought that came to my mind was a noisy fight and I'll put that down to having British parents because I'm not sure I ever hear "row" used that way in the US. My second thought went to a rowboat and, as I was flipping through my stamps hoping to find an image that would work, I saw Lawn Fawn's Rooting For You and completely changed direction.

I stamped the layered images in a row and did a little surgery on the sentiment so I was able to stamp it all at once.

Papertrey Ink June 2016 Blog Hop

I'm participating in the Papertrey Ink June 2016 Blog Hop today. As always, Nichole Heady has given us a terrific inspiration photo to get started.

I was immediately drawn to the colors and translucent layers and attempted to echo them on my card. My first try at making a card involved stamping and heat embossing Peonies on Parade images on a piece of heavy vellum and then coloring them with Copic markers.

I wasn't thrilled with my final panel, so started over stamping and heat embossing a few more images on a lighter weight vellum.  This time I die cut everything before coloring.

The card didn't come together until I layered the die cut pieces onto the original stamped panel. The vellum panel was adhered to a white frame first to allow the layers to overlap the frame.

A Wet Paint die cut and One Big Happy stamp combine for the sentiment.

CAS(E) This Sketch #178 Guest Designer!

I was equal parts thrilled and nervous when I received an email from Chrissy Larson inviting me to Guest Design for CAS(E) This Sketch #178!

I played around with a few different ideas for my card design and kept coming back to stars. Pulling out star related dies and stamps, I settled on using the Memory Box Starlit Breeze die along with a small MFT Stax Star die. The Starlit Breeze is cut into a white panel and then from gold shimmer cardstock.

Before the gold stars and circles were inset on the white panel, Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink is used to create a watercolor night sky behind the focal point. The word part of the sentiment is added and then the large star is popped up to finish off the card. 

I love having a few versatile cards like this in my stash. I was thinking it would be a great encouragement, graduation, celebration or birthday card, but my son snagged it last weekend to give to his dad, who is a true Super Star, for Father's Day.

Curtain Call: Tasty Tropics + PP300 CAS Celebration + SSS Add Shimmer

I have a quick card to share today.

If you have seen the Curtain Call: Tasty Tropics photo, you know exactly where my inspiration came from.

A sentiment and coconut drink image from Paper Smooches Get Outta Town stamp set are stamped on a scalloped stitched rectangle die cut before the image is colored with Copic markers.

The image is coated with Wink of Stella to add a little festive shine and the panel popped up on a Berry Sorbet card base.

CASology Week 203: CONGRATULATIONS

Welcome to Week 203 at CASology!

  

The word to inspire us this week is CONGRATULATIONS!  I used Trendy Feathers 2 stamp set, designed by Shery Russ of STAMPlorations, on my card.  I love the open, collage feel of these feathers!

Three of the feathers are stamped with Hawaiian Shores, Limeade Ice and Aqua Mist inks from Papertrey Ink before the sentiment is stamped over them.

Muse #170 + Seize the Birthday + Simon Says: Animal Magic

I had fun playing with the emboss resist technique Anita used on her card for Muse #170.

I knew when I started stamping and clear embossing the butterflies on a watercolor paper panel that I was going to use a Kaisercraft Cardfront Butterfly die to cut the finished panel. Instead of Distress Inks, Zig markers were used to color the panel, with several colors blending and overlapping into each other.

You can seen the gloss on the embossed butterflies in the first photo of the finished panel. Anita talked about ironing off the embossing in her post and that's what I did here to get a matte finish on the panel.

  

Nine of the butterfly resist butterflies are adhered to a scalloped, stitched rectangle and layered on a similar colored panel to the one Anita used. The Avery Elle sentiment is stamped on the card base before the panel are set in place.

CASology Week 202: MASCULINE

Welcome to Week 202 at CASology!

The word to inspire us this week is MASCULINE. My first thought was to use an earth tone palette and more masculine font and sentiment on a card and flipped through stamps and dies until I found a few that would go together.

A partial map image is stamped along the bottom edge of a kraft card base in a pale green ink to anchor the dark gray Kaisercraft compass die and Wplus9 sentiment.

FMS240 + JUGS347 + Seize the Birthday

I found myself with some unexpected free time yesterday and snuck into the office to play with an idea to combine the Freshly Made Sketches #240 with the Just Us Girls #347 Trend Week: Spotlighting Technique.

The Waffle Flower succulent image is stamped on two white panels, with one carefully & selectively die cut to give me the four smaller panels. Two of the panels are colored with Inktense pencils before they are assembled over the second stamped white panel.

For a little extra dimension, the two colored panels are adhered with thin foam squares raising them slightly higher than the other panels.

A Papertrey Ink sentiment finishes the card off. This is my first time trying the Spotlight Technique and I am really happy with the results.

I am also linking this card to Seize the Birthday where the current challenge has SUNSHINE as the Topping. I could stretch the sunshine idea to succulents being the flowers of sunshine states, but think this belongs in the Anything Goes option.

Muse #169

When I saw the sad news that this is Michele Ferguson's last week at the Muse, I knew had to make the time to play along.

Clever and creative Michele CASEd her own first card from Muse #100 for Muse Challenge #169.

Somehow I still accentuated the negative while being inspired by the hearts, vellum, scripty sentiment and sweet touch of color. The vellum is colored with a Copic marker before the Avery Elle thank you die is cut. A heart is cut out of the scalloped stitched rectange die and backed with a piece of transparency before the vellum die cut is attached. Pink heart confetti is poured on the card base and the panel adhered over it to finish the card.

CASology Week 201: Sunshine

Welcome to Week 201 at CASology!

Before I get to our new Cue Card, I have to give a huge thank you for all the lovely comments last week and for playing along with the big celebration for Week 200! The gallery is full of wonderful CAS cards, making it super hard this week for the Design Team to pick a Winner and Honorable Mention cards.

Now onto Week 201 at CASology and SUNSHINE! Whenever someone asks why we don't move closer to family, our answer is always "the weather".  Sunshine and warm weather make me very happy.

This card started with an MFT stencil inked on a cardstock panel. Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed and the lighest touch of Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks were layered and then the inked image was die cut with a stitched rectangle die. PTI's Hello Sunshine stamp and die provide the sentiment.
