CASology Simple Studios Blog Hop

Welcome to the CASology Simple Studios Blog Hop!

The design team members are sharing our creative spaces today! If you didn't come here from the CASology blog, you can go back there to start and make sure you hit every blog along the Hop.

After years of working at the kitchen table and transitioning from a closet shelf to a full armoire of storage space, when we moved into this house my husband and I finally had a shared office. Initially we had a pretty even split of the room but all added storage was for me and suddenly I controlled about 75% of the space.

Don't feel too bad for him.  He moved into a much bigger room with a TV and couch and also uses 75% of our master bedroom closet space.

This photo from the door gives a nice overview of the room including the pup's second bed. In the before times she would always sit in my doorway when I was crafting and was thrilled when I brought in the bed so she could join me in the room. Now that we're rarely home alone she isn't spending as much time here.

One early, smart decision was to remove the closet doors so a 4x4 IKEA Expedit storage unit would fit along the window wall. This holds all my paper, most stamps, dies, embossing folders, stencils, Zig brushes, colored pencils, stamp platform and extra adhesives.

I might rearrange the categories every now and then, but have found Jennifer McGuire's fridge bins and storage pocket idea to be a winner.

A favorite storage find is the pencil holders for my Copic markers. I hunted these down in several HomeGoods over at least a year and love that I can store the markers by color families. And I love how pretty they are on my desk.

My desk rarely looks this clear, but I don't keep anything other than the cutting pad and my paper trimmer here full time.

When my husband left the space, I added a second desk so I could bring in the computer and sewing machine from another room. This table became the new home for my Big Kick and a bin of paper scraps. All scraps are organized by color and stored in stamp storage pockets.  It is amazingly easy to keep tidy!

My most used tools and adhesives are stored on another favorite, the IKEA rolling cart. It fits nicely in the corner and rolls over to my side when I'm at the desk. I love this thing so much that it gets to go on retreats with me.

The two drawer units behind my desk store all my inks and the bottom drawer holds 12x12 papers from my scrapbooking days. They came from Fred Meyer's at least 15 years ago when we lived in Washington.

Although Stefan was happy to leave the office to me, he was even happier when he realized my other crafting supplies squirreled throughout the house would all fit in here with him gone.  The timing was good as our son wanted to get rid his bigger Expedit so we ended up trading it for my smaller one. You know I was a little sad about the color.

This one holds knitting, cross stitch and sewing supplies as well as paper crafting items like rubber cling stamps, buttons, washi tape, twine, punches and paper pads.

Everything is always a work in progress as I try to balance the need to keep things neat and tidy with not forgetting what is tucked away out of sight. I hope you have enjoyed this look at my space and let me know if you have any questions.

The next stop on the Hop is Milka!

I hope you hop along and comment at every stop by Thursday, February 25th at 11:59 pm CST for an opportunity to win at $20 gift certificate from Simon Says Stamp!

Freshly Made Sketches #400!!!!

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches!!!!

Celebrating sketch #400 is huge and we are doing all month long. This week we go back to the beginning and revisit Sketch #1, which is also the sketch for FMS100 - how fun is that?

I pulled out MFT Martini Time stamps and dies to get this party started, pairing them with a sentiment from MFT Spirited Sentiments.

The shaker is stamped with Delicata Silver Shimmer ink and tucked slightly behind the Limeade Ice Appletini.

The Clean Team designers have great cards this week and I have to give a big shout-out to Linda Callahan and Jen Mitchell who have been here from the beginning - that's eight years of fabulous design inspiration for us!

I'm also linking this card to Seize the Birthday in the Anything Goes category and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge to Add A Die Cut.

I look forward to seeing your cards in the gallery!

Fusion - VW Hippie + Simon Says

If you haven't already checked out the Fusion - VW Hippie challenge, I urge you to get over there. The design team cards and gallery are fabulous! With a VW Bus loving husband, I couldn't resist making a card for him.

I stamped, fussy cut and paper pieced a trio of Avery Elle buses and framed them with a MFT rectangular frame die.

A simple sentiment from PTI Destination stamp set fit perfectly on the frame.

I'm also linking this card to Simon Say Stamp Wednesday Challenge where Travel/Vacation is the theme this week.

Twofer Card Challenge 14: Balloons

I have a couple of cards to share based on the Twofer Card Challenge 14: Balloons!

It took me a while to remember thinking the inside piece of Papertrey Ink Shaker Shapes: Balloon Die looked like a giant Easter egg, but once I did the cards for this challenge came together pretty quickly.

For this first card a watercolor paper panel is inked with orange and yellow watercolor paints before the large balloon is die cut. A little extra Mustard Seed and Spices Marmalade Distress Inks are sponged over the die cut before the Simon Says Stamp sentiment is added.

The MFT cloud stencil along with Tumbled Glass and Faded Jeans Distress Inks adds a bit of interest to a white panel before the balloon is adhered. The top of the balloon is popped up and the bottom adhered snug to the panel before the panel is added with foam adhesive to a blue card base.

For this second card, the balloon shaker is transformed into an Easter egg by simply turning it upside down and snipping off the bottom piece. The same balloon die used on the first card is used to cut a transparency piece and a light aqua balloon. This balloon is embossed with a dotted chevron embossing folder to form the base of the shaker. The shaker is filled with assorted sequins and confetti pieces before being sealed.

The Papertrey Ink Simply Spring sentiment is stamped on the designer paper panel before the shaker piece is added. A couple Poppystamps Egg Cetera eggs and a set of Bunny Ears finish off this little scene.

I'm also adding this card to Poppystamps Challenge #54 Spring Cleaning (with the sequins, confetti, designer paper and embossing folder all being something old that hasn't been used in ages) and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge where Simon Says Cute..

CASology Week 334: FUNKY

Welcome to Week 334 at CASology!

My first thought when I saw the cue word this week was "James Brown". My husband is a big fan and has a birthday in a couple of weeks, so the idea of a music themed birthday card led me to MFT Keep on Rockin' Stamps.

The 70s decorator colors of Harvest Gold and Avocado Green seemed appropriate to reinforce the funky feeling I wanted to embrace.

The design team has fabulous cards this week!

We are looking forward to seeing how FUNKY inspires you - just remember to keep it Clean & Simple! We are back to one week challenges so you have until 9 AM Monday, March 11th (CMT) to link your card to the CASology blog.

CTS 305 + Memory Box Challenge #45 + SSS Clean & Simple

I have a card to share based on CAS(E) This Sketch #305, Memory Box Challenge #45 Love is in the Air and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge to make a Clean and Simple card.

Monthlythemebadge

I was originally planning to keep the vertical orientation of the design, but wanted the majority of the Memory Box Heart Wave die facing the right way.

Rotating the sketch also allowed me to use the PTI XO Skinny Mini stamps and tag for the sentiment,

Freshly Made Sketches #367 + SSS Christmas

The Freshly Made Sketches #367 from Karren was perfect for an idea percolating in my head as my obsession with tulle shaker cards continues. In addition to the regular challenge, this card is being entered into their Design Team call!

A MFT Stitched Rectangle Scallop Frame die is cut twice to frame both the front and the back of the rectangle cut out on the card front. Before the inside frame is attached, a piece of tulle is adhered to both the card base and to the frame. Sequin snowflakes are added and the frame adhered, sealing the shaker.

The PTI Christmas Cheer sentiment is heat embossed with Liquid Platinum embossing powder on the inside of the card before a rectangle area is masked and inked with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.

The PTI Silver White WInters Snowflake die cut is added to the bottom left corner and finished with a gem.

I'm also linking this card to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog where Simon Says: Christmas this week.

MIM334 + Seize the Birthday & CTS287 + PSC#48 + SSS Anything Goes

After a month long separation, I'm so happy to be reunited with my craft room and even happier to have a couple of cards to share today.

This first one is inspired by Lexi Daly's Glitter Inlay challenge for PTI's Make It Monday #334 and Seize the Birthday.

The sticker paper was cut slightly bigger than the Text Block birthday die cut. After the die cut was adhered, a trio of glitter colors were poured over the panel and worked into all the nooks and crannies created by the letters.

The finished panel is popped up on a white card base.

This second card is inspired by the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch #287, along with the Anything Goes challenges at both Poppystamps (PSC#48) and the Wednesday Challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

A trio of Mama Elephant Party Kit balloons provide the rectangle element of the sketch, with the angled Poppystamps Happy Birthday Melody die stretched across the panel.
