MFT December Guest Design Team Challenge

I'm not sure which I saw first, the card sketch for the MFT  December Guest Designer Challenge or Mona Pendleton's gorgeous mixed media wall hanging for the MFT Design Team's creative challenge, but somehow the two became linked in my mind and led to this card.

I flipped the sketch so the door would open the right way, but otherwise stayed true to the design.

Details of this monthly opportunity to win fantastic prizes are over at the MFT forum at Splitcoast Stampers.

You might not have realized looking at the photo of the card closed, but the red embossed brick panel is just a panel that the card sits on.  This panel is definitely needed for the design to work - a Tim Holtz embossing folder adds texture to it.

To make the door, I die cut a rounded banner shape in two pieces of Studio Calico Wonderland designer paper and sandwiched a piece of transparency between them to create a window. The door is finished on both sides, but a brad knob is only added to the outside.

The door is attached to a designer paper panel (Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage) to make the back of the card - this is then adhered to the red panel.

Have you figured out my new new favorite MFT Die-namic is the Winter Wreath?

The wreath is die cut three times and layered, then a piece of sheer ribbon wrapped and tied in a bow and a few gem "berries" added to finish it off. The wreath is only adhered to the top of the door, allowing it to move a bit as the card is opened.

The frosty looks is created by layering Rock Candy Stickles, Glossy Accents and Martha Stewart Glitter along with an Ice White Pearl Pen. Even the brad doorknob is frosty!

The classic sentiment is from MFT's Inspired by Christmas stamp set and inked with Red Brick Versa Magic. Fishtail Flag Stax & Layers Die-namics are used to cut the sentiment panels and it is adhered only to the wood part of the door and has a slight curve.

The inside sentiment peaks through the wreath and mimics it's shape. Lily Bee Designs letter stickers are used here.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jacquie
