more glitter for Mother's Day

I had so much fun glittering last week that I came back to it for this week's MFT weekly stamp club sketch challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.

Here is the current sketch:

                             

For some reason, when the sketch is square, I want to create a rectangular card and when the sketch is rectangular, I want to create a square card! Am I always this contrary?

We are fortunate to still be celebrating Mother's Day with both my mother and my mother-in-law. They are both about 1200 miles away, so our celebrating is from a distance, but I hope this card brings a happy smile.

I softened the lines on the left side of the sketch by using a very sheer ribbon and giving it a twist in the middle.

The papers are from the Victoria Gardens Echo Park 6x6 designer paper pad and other embellishments are from my stash.

I'm heading back to work on the second card.

I'm a sucker for letters & numbers

Is it wrong to enjoy a museum gift store as much as the museum itself?

The SFMOMA does it right - the gift store opens an hour before the museum giving me plenty of time to go from one end to the other at a nice leisurely pace. 

I love everything about this gift store - books, jewelry, wall art,  kitchen gadgets but most of all the stationery and office supplies. If I still worked in a corporate office I would be supplying my own post-it notes from the MOMA.

I am a real sucker for anything with letters & numbers, so this is my souvenir from the SFMOMA.

Yes, even the MOMA carries Washi tape - it is not just a scrapbooking fad, it's a Modern Art masterpiece!

Each lovely little container holds 5 different tapes - aren't they sweet!

I have to share one funny story from last weekend and then get on with some crafty stuff.

On his first trip to San Francisco, my dear son's biggest disappointment was discovering cable cars don't careen out of control down the hills and that you really are NOT allowed to hang your body out into the street while riding.

Notice anything special about this cable car?

Not the greatest photo, but the sign on the front reads "Training Car No Passengers".

Overhearing our debate on whether to wait for the next cable car or walk, the trainer offered us a free ( heehee - yes FREE) ride up the hill if we didn't mind the car stopping, rolling & restarting.

It was a fun ride and my son is green with envy. When a cable car stops part way up a hill, the driver has to control a roll back down to the nearest cross street (flat area) before he can continue up the hill again. The hills are steep and that roll backwards does leave you hanging on tight!

We stopped, rolled back, started up hill, stopped, rolled back and started back up hill a few times before reaching our destination.

I left my heart in San Francisco . . . again

I am one lucky girl.
I am a little tired, and my feet are very, very, VERY sore, but I returned late last night from a 4 day weekend with three of my oldest & bestest friends in the beautiful city of San Francisco.

I've been there a few times and love, love, love that place - so much to do & see - I honestly can not wait to go back again.

We did lots together, and also had some time on our own. When I realized our Gourmet Walks Asian Street Food Tour would take me within a couple of blocks of Timeless Treasures, I knew I was going to finally make it into the store.

For anyone who loves letters, fonts, typesetting, stamps and general vintage goodies, Timeless Treasures is a shop you must put on your to do list if you ever make it to San Francisco. One girlfriend came along with me and picked up a vintage vase & candlestick holder while I poked my way through the drawers of little letters until I found what I wanted.

A project is brewing in my head and, of course, I will share it as things come together.

While I was at Timeless Treasures, another friend discovered Britex Fabrics Saturday afternoon.

Why did this store capture my attention? Could it be because the entire 4th floor is ribbon, trims & buttons?

Britex wasn't open on Sunday, but I managed to duck in for about 15 minutes before heading to the airport yesterday. While I had some trim & ribbon cut, I took a couple of terrible photos just to show the expanse of product.

The gentleman in the foreground is cutting my trim while I calculate how much time I have left to look at buttons.

These photos are of the same wall, looking left, then right from the cashier. There was a whole other wall behind me!!

It might be a very, very good thing I really only had a few minutes in this store!

I have a few crafty things to get done this week, so will be back to share.
