Freshly Made Sketches #675

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #675!

I can't wait to see what you do with the fabulous Clean Team designer Linda Callahan's sketch this week! For me, the trio of ledges were always going to be sentiment strips.

The Penny Black Bashful Flower die is adhered to a Darice Thin Lines embossed panel. Maybe it is because we just had an atmospheric river pass through, but the lines reminded me of a rainy downpour which made a fitting background. The sentiments from MFT Deepest Sympathy and Essential Sentiments stamp sets are heat embossed on various scraps before being popped up over the flower. The card base is the same deep indigo blue as the bottom sentiment strip.

Freshly Made Sketches #650

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #650!

Our fabulous sketch this week is from the super talented Clean Team Designer, Judy Rozema! There are so many ways to go with this trio of horizontal panels and I ended up combining two ideas. The first was using an ombre color block and the second was to take advantage of a never before used  MFT  Tri-Frame Cover Up die.

The MFT Cloud stencil is used to ink clouds onto a white panel in an ombre pattern and then cut with the tri-frame die.  A second frame die is cut and the outline only is adhered to a white panel. The white heat embossed MFT Deepest Sympathy sentiment is added to darkest blue inked panel before all three ombre pieces are popped up over the openings in the white frame.

A white Penny Black Bashful Flower die cut is draped over the three panels to finish the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #648

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #648!

So many ideas were spinning in my head for this fabulous sketch from the queen of layered designs, Narelle Farrugia! The butterflies won out as I decided to make a brighter than normal (for me) sympathy card.

Each butterfly is made up by stacking two Poppystamps Cheviot Butterfly die cuts with a Poppystamps Delaney Butterfly die cut. The vellum Cheviots are colored with Copic markers for a rainbow effect and topped with the white Delaney butterflies.

A panel is embossed with the Lifestyle Crafts large dot embossing folder and the MFT From All of Us sentiment strip added along the bottom first, then three white Cheviot butterflies are adhered to the panel. The colored butterflies are adhered in the center only with a glue dot so the wings can lift.

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #618!

The always elegant Clean Team designer, Cécile Ribon, has given us a lovely sketch to work with this week! As you can see, I interpreted it very literally.

After playing around with a few brushstroke stamps and different color palettes, I settled on the MFT Paint Strokes stencil and Altenew shades of green inks to create a base for the The Stamp Market Greenery image. It and the Technique Tuesday So Sorry sentiment are added with Versamark ink. The simple panel is popped up on a white card base for a bit of interest and dimension.

Freshly Made Sketches #586

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #586!

I am hosting the challenge this week and completely designed a sketch around the vertical panel to use a pretty olive branch washi tape I recently found. If you follow me on social media, you will see an occasional post covering my adventures in growing, harvesting and brining olives from small plants bought at Trader Joe's over the last few years.

Several Memory Box Small Olive Branch die cuts are colored with Copic markers, clipped into two pieces and five of the pieces gathered to form a twine tied bouquet. The washi is adhered to a strip of white cardstock and a Altenew Thinking of You sentiment heat embossed on a sentiment strip. These pieces are layered on the embossed panel to finish the card.

I am so excited to see what you do with the sketch and hope you check out the fantastic Clean Team designs at Freshly Made Sketches for more inspiration!

Freshly Made Sketches #585

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #585!

I adore stripes so was thrilled to see Clean Team designer Judy Rozema's fabulous sketch this week! There is no shortage of striped stencils, embossing folders, dies and patterned paper in my collection and I pulled them all out and promptly ignored them.

The idea of making my own stripes had me experimenting with the color from Zig Real Brush Markers and a wet 3/4" flat brush until I had a panel I liked with shades of brown through green. Sadly, this has been a rough few years for family and friends losing loved ones, so I need to replenish the supply of sympathy cards.

The Memory Box Small Alder Tree is layered with the top cut from watercolor paper and the bottom from dark green cardstock for a little extra dimension. The PTI Penned Elegance sentiment is stamped with Memento Truffle Espresso ink before the panel is popped up over the dark green card base.

Freshly Made Sketches #550

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #550!

The queen of fabulous clean and fresh designs, Jen Mitchell, has given us a great sketch that can be taken is so many directions. Clean and simple is my favorite style so I created the trio of panels with a few swipes of watercolor.

Teammate Cécile Ribon's lovely use of thread and floss in her designs inspired me to practice making French knots on a scrap of paper while the panel dried. After adding the PTI Life image and Gina K Designs Wild Roses sentiment, I felt brave enough to poke three holes and add the stitches.

Freshly Made Sketches #473

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #473!

I absolutely adore Amy's fun sketch this week! While cleaning out the office a few weeks ago a ran across a couple pieces of the prettiest Altenew wide washi Joyce Mehrberg shared with me during one of our long ago crafting dates. I knew this was going to be the star of my design.

The washi was added to a white panel and die cut with a stitched edge rectangle. A couple linen card stock panels are cut as well, with the smaller one also used to cut the washi panel into three pieces. After the Altenew Thinking of You sentiment was added in dark blue, the panels are assembled and added to an indigo card base.

I love the contrast between the smooth washi and linen texture.

CASology Challenge 380

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #380!

Welcome to 2021 everyone! I'm adding my card to the reminder post for the Memories challenge at CASology. I wanted to replenish my stack of sympathy cards as, sadly, I've had to send out quite a few in the last year.

The sentiment comes from a very old MFT Clearly Sentimental About Sympathy stamp set and is surrounded by a watercolored feather and Nuvo drops.

Check out the design team cards for more inspiration!

CASology Challenge #377

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #377!

I love the color explosion of a great sunset and have been hoping for years to see the green flash that is present about ten minutes before the sun goes over the horizon. I hadn't heard of this phenomenon before living in San Diego, but our vast uninterrupted ocean horizon apparently makes it more common to see.

A circle of Mustard Seed Distress Ink is blended on a very light gray panel, before a bit of Marmalade Spice Distress Ink is added to the top portion and the Simon Says Stamp All Seasons Tree die cut is adhered over it.

As you can see, most of the leaves are not adhered to the panel, adding a bit of dimension and interest to the design. The Altenew Thinking of You sentiment finishes the card.

The design team has terrific cards to inspire you!

Freshly Made Sketches #432

How fun is this sketch from Jen Timko? The first thing I saw was a wreath so I went searching through my dies for an open circle shape to use as a base, landing on MFT's Stitched Circle Scallops.

I cut a few Spellbinders and Poppystamps feathers from a leftover piece of watercolored paper. These were layered on the black frame along with a few sequins and Pretty Pink Posh jewels. A fun find with my feather dies was this older MFT Accent It - Feather & Arrows arrow die that is used to create the horizontal line above the Altenew Thinking of You sentiment.

I hope you are all hanging in there with the current stay home restrictions. Crafting has definitely been one of my outlets during this time.

I look forward to seeing your cards fill the gallery at Freshly Made Sketches!

Freshly Made Sketches #428

Amy O'Neill has given us a great sketch to play with this week. The offset circle panel had me reaching for Pretty Pink Posh Spring Wreath and a fist full of Copic markers.

The MFT Essential Sentiments sentiment is stamped and heat embossed before being popped up over the wreath.

I hope you can join us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

Freshly Made Sketches #422

Clean Team designer Linda Callahan has given us a terrific sketch this week!

I pulled out a few panel dies and a Memory Box Small Alder Tree die cut to layer for my design. Although I love the twine bow in the sketch, it was fighting with the tree branches, so I replaced it with the vertical lines of a woodgrain embossing folder.

The MFT Greetings and Salutations sentiment is heat embossed on a black strip to finish the card.

CASology Challenge 354: FOG

Welcome to Week 354 at CASology!

The first thing that came to my mind with FOG as our cue word was vellum, as it mimics the translucent nature of fog, which led to cutting a pair of Concord & 9th Give Thanks vellum die cuts.

The die cuts are placed over and under an MFT sentiment strip and finished with a trio of enamel dots.

Check out the design team cards for more great ideas!

Freshly Made Sketches #403

I took a little creative license with Narelle Farrugia's great sketch, turning it to a horizontal orientation, pulling the strips apart so they don't overlap and placed them on top of the leafy embellishment.

A Memory Box Bamboo Shoots die cut is selectively trimmed and placed along a diagonal line on the embossed panel before adding the MFT Greetings and Salutations sentiment strips. The top strip is adhered to the panel, with the other two added with two different height foam adhesives.

The Clean Team has terrific cards this week! I hope you are inspired to play along with us.
