CASology Week 228: BOW

Welcome to Week 228 at CASology!

It is always fun to see how a cue word with multiple meanings and pronunciations is going to be interpreted.  For my card, I started with the idea of making a bow tie and pulled out an MFT die. I played with a few different papers before moving to a red felt that gave me the body I was wanting.

Leaving the tails off looked more like a bow tie, but the embellishment didn't feel balanced, so I adhered the tails. I still see a bow tie, but maybe you see a gift bow? Either way, I love the finished card with a CAS-ual Fridays sentiment.

Check out the Design Team cards for more terrific ideas!

Muse #195 + SSS Ice Inspiration

I knew immediately what card I wanted to make after seeing Anita's lovely card for the Muse Challenge #195.

This card uses a Poppystamps Snowflake die in a similar way to Anita, although I left the die cut white and inked the panel pieces with Tumbled Glass Distress Inks. I also inked the card base so the color would peek through the open parts of the snowflake and the channel between the ribbon pieces.

Two layers of the snowflake ribbon help add extra dimension to the card. The Paper Smooches Christmas Sampler sentiment is inked with Tumbled Glass and stamped to follow the curve of the ribbon.

Wink of Stella is swiped along the die cut for a touch of icy sparkle.

I am also linking this card to the Wednesday Challenge Blog where this week the challenge is Ice Inspiration.

CASology Week 227: SPACE

Welcome to Week 227 at CASology!

I was initially thinking of an outer space themed card when I saw this week's cue card, but you know how the stream of consciousness can take you in another direction. For me it went from outer space to constellation to star to Memory Box Star of Wonder die.

The star is cut from gold glitter paper and adhered on a Dark Indigo card base along with a Poppystamps sentiment die cut from Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Metallic Papers. Dark Indigo is a new deep blue color from Papertrey Ink that I'm loving, but found really hard to photograph.

Check out the Design Team for more great cards inspired by the word SPACE!

CASology Week 226: CANDLE

Welcome to Week 226 at CASology!

Our Cue word CANDLE works perfectly with a few of the great digital images from Kitty Bee Designs! I choose to use this sweet bumble, printing it and the Kitty Bee Designs sentiment on a piece of lighter weight Neenah cardstock.

Using just two shades of yellow and a dark gray, the trio of Copic markers helped keep the design clean and simple.

The hat ruffle, wings and candle flame are highlighted with a Wink of Stella glitter pen before the panel is die cut with a Wonky Stitched oval die and popped up on the card base.

Papertrey Ink November 2016 Blog Hop

It's November 25th, which means three things around here. First, it's my youngest sister's birthday (happy birthday, Mah!), second, the panic inducing realization that we are a month away from Christmas has set in (why does this catch me by surprise every single year?) and finally, time for the Papertrey Ink November 2016 Blog Hop.

My daughter & I headed to Victoria to visit family last week and came home to jump right into Thanksgiving dinner preparation, so I didn't expect to find time to play along this month but the inspiration photo Nicole gave us just kept calling to me. The retro vibe and nontraditional Christmas colors were just too fun to ignore!

A Rustic Wreath is cut from white felt and adhered to a Limeade Ice circle. I did this before stamping and heat embossing part of the sentiment on the circle. The holiday is cut three times (2 white and 1 Hawaiian Shores) and layered to make it a little sturdier and adhered to the circle next.

This circle is popped up on a dot embossed flag, which is popped up on the card base. The brightly colored ornaments in the inspiration piece became enamel dots embellishing the wreath on this card.

I plan to ignore the Black Friday sales and make my way through the beautiful cards linked to the Hop this morning.

CASology Week 225: SOFT

Welcome to Week 225 at CASology!

This is a super versatile cue word and I can't wait to see how you use SOFT this week. I thought of soft textures first and played with a few ideas before landing on the softly colored, soft falling snow design on my card.

The Hero Arts Peace & Joy sentiment is stamped with Versamark ink and heat embossed on a cardstock panel along with a  trio of snowflakes from Lawn Fawn's Merry Messages stamp set. The panel is then softly inked with Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and a few more snowflakes added.

CASology Week 224: EMBRACE

Welcome to Week 224 at CASology!

What do you think of when you hear the word embrace? With a couple of family members at crossroads, deciding what their next move in life will be, I was stuck on the idea of embracing change which led me to create this card.

The sentiments from Paper Smooches Group Hugs stamp set are stamped with Versamark Ink and heat embossed on a trio of SSS Talk Bubbles. The bubbles slightly overlap on the dark gray card base with different foam adhesives popping up two.

Check out the Design Team cards for more terrific takes on EMBRACE!

CASology Week 223: TEAM

Welcome to Week 223 at CASology!

Team is a great cue word, especially if you are a sports fan, but after looking through my stamps, I was sidetracked by the thought of superhero teams. Is your house team Justice League or team Avengers? We are split around here, but I am leaning to team Justice League with this supergirl card.

The supergirl image from the PTI Superhero stamp set is stamped first and then masked so it can be framed with the sound effect bubble from PTI Zappy Birthday stamp set. When masking like this, I trim a stamped image rather than using the matching die cut so I can get the stamped images as close together as possible. The cityscape die cut is added next and then the simple sentiment.

Muse: Christmas Visions 69

Kimberly Wiener provided us a great inspiration card for Muse: Christmas Visions 69.

I really just wanted to copy every detail of Kimberly's card but looking through my supplies decided to switch things up a bit, going for a black "joy" die cut and red poinsettia.

The text paper and swirled thread are reinterpreted with the music embossed background for a little added interest and texture.

Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge 220

I am just squeaking in under the wire to submit a card for Merry Monday #220 where the theme is decorating your door for the holidays.

I always decorate the door with fresh greenery and jingle bells and created a card to reflect this.

A Mama Elephant Jingle Greetings sentiment is stamped on a white panel that is then embossed with a woodgrain embossing folder.

A trio of greenery die cuts are adhered together and topped off with a single jingle bell and a Baker's twine bow.

Muse #190

Estelle's card for Muse #190 inspired me to head into the office earlier today. I think it is pretty obvious which elements I used from her card: a trio of open leaves, the color palette and a woodgrain background.

Muse 190

Both sizes of the PTI Leaf Silhouette dies are used to cut the trio of leaves that are tied with a piece of waxed thread wrapped around the stems. This is as close as I could get to the lovely stitching on Estelle's card.

The Keep It Simple Thank You sentiment is stamped in Scarlet Jewel ink on a white banner that is wrapped around one end of the woodgrain embossed panel.

I love these colors together!

Freshly Made Sketches 261

Sometimes I look at sketch challenges and draw a complete blank and sometimes I can't get to my desk fast enough to make the card that immediately popped into my head. Cindy's sketch for Freshly Made Sketches 261 is one of those that quickly translated into a card for me. It might have something to do with the Poppystamps Snowflake Ribbon die that I picked up at a sort of local store weeks ago. Cindy has the narrow band going behind her panels and I pulled it to the front to showcase the ribbon die.

The Mama Elephant Jingle Greetings sentiment is stamped with Versamark ink on a white panel and heat embossed. Tumbled Glass Distress Ink is blending over the panel making the sentiment pop. A second rectangle panel is cut from black cardstock and slightly offset from the inked panel before being adhered to the card base. The sequin and pearl add a finishing touch to the snowflake.

I think it is time for a clean up and reorganization of my office because sequins were the latest item to go missing. They were finally found behind my Expedit bookcase where the entire case had slid out the back of a cubby!?

CASology Week 222: WELCOME

Welcome to Week 222 at CASology!

This card started with the sweet little house die from Avery Elle and an idea to create a sentiment based card. It took a few days, and more than a few failed attempts, before I narrowed the design to the die cut rainbow "happy" along with the stamped black sentiments.

My MISTI was put to good use as I selectively stamped some images like the "welcome" from PTI Perfect Pairings stamp set, and cut apart a few others like the "to" and "yours" from Technique Tuesday Say It - Birthday stamp set.

The Avery Elle Alpha dies and house are adhered after all the sentiments were stamped.
