Freshly Made Sketches #551

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #551!

My mind went immediately to washi tape as soon as I saw the three strips on Kim Singdahlsen's fun design this week so I pulled out the holiday tapes while thinking about what I would do with the main part of the panel.

A few Copic markers are used to color the MFT Stuffed Santa images which fill in the space nicely and go with the fun Ho Ho Ho washi sentiment. The first version of this card used three washi tapes, but as sometimes happens, I wasn't really happy with the card so redid it replacing a couple washi strips with medium and dark gray cardstock to make it look more like a rooftop.

The snowy bits are given dimension with a Viva Pearl Pen.

Freshly Made Sketches #550

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #550!

The queen of fabulous clean and fresh designs, Jen Mitchell, has given us a great sketch that can be taken is so many directions. Clean and simple is my favorite style so I created the trio of panels with a few swipes of watercolor.

Teammate Cécile Ribon's lovely use of thread and floss in her designs inspired me to practice making French knots on a scrap of paper while the panel dried. After adding the PTI Life image and Gina K Designs Wild Roses sentiment, I felt brave enough to poke three holes and add the stitches.

Freshly Made Sketches #549

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #549!

I love the circle element in the center of Clean Team designer, Jennifer Timko's fabulous sketch this week! Often I would turn to wreaths or a large snowflake, flower or butterfly image to take center stage, but my Simply Graphic Hublot (porthole) die was sitting on my desk begging to be used again.

Blue Distress Inks and a wave stencil add a watery splash of color to the center of the card base while the main panel is prepared with embossed stripes and the porthole die cut.

I'm not sure it the purple inked Memory Box Owen the Octopus die cut is escaping back to the sea or climbing on board. Either way, the partially stamped MFT Bitty Birthday Wishes sentiment is tangled in his legs and a few Pretty Pink Posh jewels add a festive finish.

Freshly Made Sketches #548

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #548!

I am hosting the sketch this week and came up with a narrow vertical panel to add interest to the card front. I wanted to use the largest of the Simply Graphic Ancres (anchors) dies on the large part of the panel and went looking for design elements that would echo and repeat the anchor.

As you can see, there is no shortage of anchors in my stash. The white stitched rectangle panel is embossed with a Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder and then a scrap of patterned paper added along the right side.

The MFT All About Dad sentiment is heat embossed, divided into two simple strips and popped up below the anchor die cut.

Freshly Made Sketches #547

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #547!

I was determined to use my Simply Graphic Les Nageuses (swimmers) dies bought last year, so have to give a huge thank you to Judy Rozema for the perfect sketch! Once I saw the circle and center panel as the floaties in the die set, I couldn't unsee them. Of course, to make it work with the diving swimmer, I had to flip the circle element, but that little adjustment is within the challenge rules.

After the pool paper was adhered and the Imaginisce Party Me Hearty sentiment heat embossed on the panel, I was ready to layer on the die cuts except I didn't like what felt like an unfinished pool edge.

It was too late to layer another panel so I searched for a die that would give me the sliver of edge I wanted. A balloon string provided the exact look I wanted!

CASology Challenge #406: SAND

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #406!

My happy place is the beach which meant I had plenty of ideas swirling in my head when I saw the cue word for August. It was the fun Simply Graphic Hublot (porthole) die that had me focussing on the idea of framing a little sandy island paradise.

Zig Real Brush markers were used to create the sandy island first and then the Kerri Bradford Aloha palm tree and sentiment were added. The scene is adhered to the card base and the white panel with the porthole frame inset was adhered over it with foam tape.

Check out the fabulous design team cards and play along with us this month!
