CASology Week 238: CRUNCH

Welcome to Week 238 at CASology!

I took a meandering route from the cue word to my card this week, thinking about the CRUNCH of eating carrots, and then searching the internet for an image that matched the design in my head.

This freebie image was printed on a lightweight watercolor paper and colored with a couple of Zig Real Brush pens. A Papertrey Ink sentiment was stamped on the panel after it dried. The panel is then popped up on a card base made from a heavier weight watercolor paper.

Papertrey Ink February 2017 Blog Hop

I'm participating in the Papertrey Ink February 2017 Blog Hop today. You can check out Nichole's blog for all the details.

After following along with the look back memory lane as Papertrey Ink is celebrating their 10th Anniversary this month, I pulled out one of my favorite (and maybe first purchase) stamp sets, Birthday Bash, and my favorite floral set from last year, Peonies on Parade, to make this card.

The peonies were stamped on watercolor paper and embossed with a gold glitter embossing powder before being colored with layers of purple and pink paint. Once I was done layering the color, the flowers were die cut and layered around the gold embossed sentiment banner.

The banner was lost on the Smoky Shadow card base, so I added an embossed white panel to allow the all the gold embossed pieces to really pop.

This card is also being linked to Seize the Birthday in the Anything Goes category and to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge where Anything Goes this week.

CASology Week 237: SCORE

Welcome to Week 237 at CASology!

My first thought when I saw this week's cue word was sports related but, without a need for a sport themed card, I kept on thinking. I'm happy I did as I love the way the star looks on this card and think it will be perfect for an upcoming graduation.

An MFT star die is cut from Tim Holtz metallic paper and scored to give a three dimensional shape. The star is adhered to a navy panel that has been partially embossed with a horizontal stripe embossing folder (you could easily use a score board to create this effect) and then the PTI sentiment is stamped and heat embossed in gold.

The dimesional star is created by scoring five lines and the folding them all in the same direction first. Once the fold line is created, it is easy to go back and fold the short line the opposite way, creating the dimension.

Papertrey Ink Celebrating 2012 + FMS275 & Celebrating 2014 + Seize the Birthday

Papertrey Ink is Celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary with a number of challenges and I was happy to finally find a little time to play along.

This first card uses the Hello Sunshine stamp set from 2012 and the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches #275.

Bright Buttercup and Summer Sunrise inks were selectively used on the sentiment and inked on the card base to provide a sunny glow. A couple of washi tapes strips help anchor the panel.

For the second card, Celebrating 2014, the Text Block: Birthday die is cut from Smokey Shadow cardstock and adhered to a blue and green watercolored panel. This panel is popped up on a Smokey Shadow card base to make a quick and fast birthday card.

This card is also being linked to Seize the Birthday in their Anything Goes category.

Muse #203

This is one of those cards that came to me almost immediately after seeing Tracey's card for Muse #203. I pulled out the Lawn Fawn Chirpy Chirp Chirp stamp set for the Easter egg and paintbrush images and used MFT Abstract Art for the Distress ink paint splotches on the eggs. The paintbrush are colored with Copic markers and a PTI sentiment heat embossed on the black banner.

Tracey McNeely Muse #203

Even though I had a design idea immediately, this card took hours to make because my little paintbrush stamp went MIA in the office. Has this ever happened to you? I cleaned off my desk, swept the floor and went through the recycling and garbage piece by piece and it still didn't turn up. I checked myself in the full length mirror to see if the stamp had attached itself to my clothing. I retraced my steps and gave the pup a pat down and still no stamp. Finally I walked away from the office in frustration. When I returned, I carefully tried to retrace my steps from earlier and found that little sucker attached to the storage envelope for my wonky stitched rectangle dies. One day I will learn not to leave tiny stamps sitting out.

CASology Week 236: ROMANCE

Welcome to Week 236 at CASology!

Happy Valentines's Day! Our cue word this week might help prompt you to make a last minute Valentine's Day card or something for an upcoming wedding or anniversary or something that invokes a romantic image.

I used Reverse Confetti Heart Banner dies to hang a little banner over a heart embossed panel with a perfect Concord & 9th sentiment to complete the card.

The heart cut-out banner pieces are backed by a white solid banner piece and contrasting hearts inset into the openings.

Fusion - Interlocking Hearts

I struggled to come up with a card for the Fusion - Interlocking Hearts until I turned the sketch on its side.

The falling hearts embossed panel adds a bit of interest and connects the Lawn Fawn XO sentiment with the Concord & 9th Be Mine.

Muse #202 and Color Throwdown #429

I am popping in to quickly post a couple of cards for challenges with deadlines approaching. This first card is inspired by Anita's card for Muse #202.

I'm at a retreat with some of my favorite crafting ladies which means I get to use dies, stamps and products belonging to them. For this card, I scored a line on the white panel and ran three rows of washi tape, then scored another line. The borrowed Taylored Expressions Hello die is cut twice (white and yellow) and layered before being adhered to the panel.

I was inspired by the camouflaged sentiment and bright colors on Anita's card.

Muse #202

For this second card, I used the Color Throwdown #429 colors and played with Ken Oliver Color Burst pigments.

The Rubbernecker poppy image was heat embossed on watercolor paper first and then the colors added in layers. A simple PTI sentiment finished this card.

CASology Week 235: HERO

Welcome to Week 235 at CASology!

Did you think of a personal hero, a cartoon hero or a sandwich when you first saw this week's cue card? My card pays homage to a mix of the first two, my dear husband and his love of classic comic book heroes. Given that he answered "sandwich" once when asked what his favorite snack was, maybe I should figure a way to pull in the third option, too.

A primary color palette reinforced the comic book theme with the PTI Superhero stamp set providing both the silhouette image and sentiment.

Muse #201

I love the clean & elegant design Valentyna gave us with her card as the Guest Muse for Challenge #201.

Muse #201

As you can see, I was inspired by the floral image, colors, the curving lines and the big sentiment. I pulled out a NBUS Roses in Bloom die from MFT while I thought about how I wanted to color the image.

I used Zig markers to color scraps of watercolor paper, cutting one piece of green stems and two sets of the blooms. The darker pink bloom provided the outline of the flower and a couple of inset pieces and the remaining inset pieces came from a lighter pink watercolored piece. A Simon Says Stamp sentiment finishes the card.
