Muse Christmas Visions #59 + NBUS #7

I've been letting my son drive to school lately. The good part is that I don't have to battle the school traffic costing me at least 30 minutes to drive the 6 mile round trip at 7 in the morning. The bad part is I don't get the car back until almost 5 because he has cross country practice after school. Today it also meant I had some time to craft.

I had major poinsettia envy when I saw Meredith MacRitchie's gorgeous card for the Muse Christmas Visions Challenge #59. That is not patterned paper on her card! I really need to get a poinsettia stamp into my collection this year, but for now have to make do with a sweet Poppystamps Poinsettia die.

I took several ideas from Meredith's card: the inked tag, mix of a diecut &stamped sentiment, poinsettia die cuts and jute bow.

The close up shows the lovely detailed lines on the poinsettias.

This card is also being entered in the lovely Darnell's NBUS #7 Challenge. I picked up a number of MFT dies earlier this summer, included this great stitched tag. I punched the hole and added a hole protector from a second NBUS tag set. I encourage you to use something from your new craft supplies and play along on this fun challenge (or at least check out what everyone else has been buying).

My car is home so I'm off to run a few errands!

CASology Week 213: STITCH

Welcome to Week 213 at CASology!

I took this week's word literally and added a few stitches to my card. A felt MFT Beautiful Baby elephant is cut first and then a small oval die is used to create an ear that is stitched on with embroidery floss. After a little consultation with my creative advisors (AKA the kids), a French knot eye was also added.

The finished elephant is added to a sentiment circle and then adhered to an MFT Wonky Stitched Square die, further reinforcing the stitched theme this week.

Check out the amazing Design Team cards for more ideas!

Papertrey Ink August 2016 Blog Hop

I am participating in the Papertrey Ink August 2016 Blog Hop where we have been given this lovely image to inspire us this month.

August Blog Hop

I picked just a couple of the most saturated colors from the image to use on this card. The largest paint stroke image from the Brushed Off Stamp set is inked with Berry Sorbet and partially stamp twice on a white panel. I wanted the brush stroke going both ways, so stamped in one direction first and then turned and flipped the stamp in the other direction.

A large navy Hugs die cut is place over the brush stroke and a couple of sentiment stamps from Big Hugs finishes this card off.

The gallery is always full of beautiful cards for the monthly Blog Hop, so I'm off to check them out!

Muse #180

School has started and things are slowly moving into more of a regular routine around our house which means I've managed to find a little more crafting time this week. Marilyn's inky background on her Guest Designer card for Muse #180 caught my eye right away and I started inking, smooshing & spraying until I had a panel I liked.

A floral image is heated embossed several times down the left side of the panel and a sentiment created with a die cut and heat embossed phrase on the right side.

I hope to see lots of inky panels at the Muse this week!

CASology Week 212: FUN

Welcome to Week 212 at CASology!

I don't think we could have an easier Cue Card to work with this week, it is so wide open for interpretation! My husband and I recently had a quick little trip to San Francisco and it reminded me of how much fun he is to be around when he isn't distracted by work. My next goal is to get him all to myself in New York City.

The Altenew Sketchy NYC skyline is stamped in black and rainbow colored with Copic markers. Before the finished panel is popped up on the black card base, a few sentiments from MFT Off the Chart stamp set were heat embossed along the edge.

Check out the terrific Design Team cards for more ideas on where FUN can take you!

CASology Week 211: DREAM

Welcome to Week 211 at CASology!

Dreams, the future and butterflies just go together, don't they? I pulled out a couple of older Hero Arts stamp sets for this card.

Masking the sentiment allowed me to stamp it with the black and aqua inks and then the butterfly is added resting on the edge. The scalloped stitched rectangle panel is popped up on the card base with foam adhesive.

CASology Week 210: DIZZY

Welcome to Week 210 at CASology!

This week's inspiration word had me a little stumped until I looked out the window of my sister's 39th floor hotel room in San Francisco followed by a walk in the hilly city. Going uphill wasn't a problem, but more than one downhill block triggered a vertigo episode. Hmmm, I had a "heights definitely make me dizzy" lightbulb moment and had this card designed in my head well before I made it back home.

The Tim Holtz sentiment is stamped in green on the Impress Seattle Skyline border die before it is popped up on an aqua base. My dear husband and I had an unwritten agreement when the kids were younger: he took them anywhere heights were involved and I crawled with them through tight places like caves and submarines. It was dad that took our daughter up to the top of the Space Needle a couple of weeks before we moved from Seattle while our son decided the gift shop was much more interesting.

CASology Week 209: WATERCOLOR

Welcome to Week 209 at CASology!

I was excited to see WATERCOLOR as the cue word this week. I do like to use a heavy weight watercolor paper for both the panel and card base when I use watercolor paints, Distress Inks, re-inkers or Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to make a card.

An MFT Thanks die is cut from masking paper and adhered to the center of a watercolor paper panel and yellow and red Zig Clean Color markers brushed randomly over the word. An aqua brush adds water causing the colors to blend and spread further. Once the panel was dry, the die cut word was carefully lifted leaving an uncolored space in the middle of the watercoloring. The secret to clean masking is making sure the mask is fully adhered and using a minimum amount of water around the edges.
