use your scraps

The Papertrey Ink Make it Monday challenge really caught my attention this week: use your scraps to create the background paper for your card.

It is a constant struggle deciding whether to keep paper scraps or not. When scrapbooking I often used the left over scraps of patterned paper to make a couple of cards, but what do I do with the scraps from my card making?!

I had the scraps of Victoria Gardens paper from Echo Park sitting on my desk from the two Mother's Day cards I made and highlighted in my last couple of posts.

I decided to create a paper quilt using 1¼" squares that I adhered to a large scrap of white cardstock.

The whole piece was run through my Big Shot to cut the shape first (Tim Holtz Sizzix Ornament die)

and then again with a Cuttlebug embossing folder to mimic the stitching on a quilt.

The end result is a faux quilt look and it just screamed "baby girl" to me.

I punched hearts out of more scraps - the "LOVE" sentiment is a part of the patterned paper and the other sentiments are from 2 different PTI stamp sets.

The "bundle of joy" sentiment is from Mixed Messages and "sweet baby" and "welcome to the neighborhood" are from Daily Designs Sentiments.

A little ribbon from my stash, a heart pin, Tim Holtz memo pin and flower brad round out the embellishments and everything is outlined with Cotton Candy Stickles. I used dimensional adhesives to layer the sentiments and pop the quilt patterned paper off the card base.

The inside of the card is finished with a trio of hearts.

I am really happy with final card, but don't know anyone having a baby girl! I need to find someone to give this to - suggestions appreciated.

I have quite a few scraps sitting on my desk, so will definitely be making a couple more cards based on this challenge over the next couple of days.
