Freshly Made Sketches #542

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #542!

Clean Team designer Kim Singdahlsen has given us a fabulous, classic sketch to work with this week. The biggest challenge was deciding what shape I wanted to highlight, but things came together very quickly once I flipped through a few dies and spotted a summer favorite.

The Hero Arts ice cream cone dies are cut and the cone embossed to give it a waffle cone look. Course glitter gives a sugary finish to the ice cream. The cone is popped up over a pretty pink gingham panel. A little white ink was smeared over the panel before stamping the Lawn Fawn Treat Yourself sentiment. A few enamel dots finish the design.

I'm adding this card to Seize the Birthday #241 - Summer Activities challenge.

Freshly Made Sketches #541

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #541!

The fun sketch this week is from the talented Jen Brum and had me immediately thinking of ways to use the horizontal panel to add a splash of color or pattern to my design. It was accidental that I went with a rainbow stripe after a couple attempts at using a rainbow in the center panel failed.

I love the precision stripes I can get using The Stamp Market Quick Strip 1/4" dies. The rainbow colors were adhered to a black scrap panel slightly smaller than the width of the white panel and then cut with the same rectangle die to get a perfect fit.

Butterflies were cut from scraps using the Memory Box Butterfly Wings die, adhered in the same rainbow order as the stripes and topped with Pretty Pink Posh gems. A heat embossed sentiment from MFT Bitty Birthday Wishes finished the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #540

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #540!

I took a super clean and simple approach to Jen Mitchell's terrific sketch this week, creating the overlapping panels with Spiced Marmalade and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks and a Taylored Expressions stencil. I masked off about an inch of the stencil to get a smaller rectangle the fit the design better.

An MFT Greetings and Salutations sentiment is stamped overlapping the orange panel and then The Stamp Market Just Vines die cut and a trio of sequins are to finish the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #539

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #539!

Our challenge leader, Jen Timko, has given us a terrific sketch that is wide open for creative ideas! This is one of those sketches that had so many different thoughts swirling in my head. The funny thing is I started with candles, couldn't make the idea in my head happen on paper, played with another bunch of ideas and then came back to candles after I found the perfect sentiment for the circle element.

An older Sweet'n Sassy Birthday Word Art stamp set designed by my real life friend, Gloria Stengel, brought me back to the candle theme. The Elizabeth Crafts Candles die cuts are layered and adhered over the numbers stamped on the soft gray panel and then Ranger Liquid Platinum heat embossed sentiment added.

I love the touch of extra color from the Essential by Ellen thin circle frame die cut adds to finishing the design.

CASology Challenge #404: RIDE

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #404!

I went in many different directions (bikes, amusement parks, cars, trains, planes, etc.) before settling on riding the waves as inspiration for my card this month. The beach is my happy place and I am lucky enough to watch surfers ride the waves several times a week.

The Kerri Bradford Waves stamp set provided both the sweet surfboard and sentiment for this card. My Tim Holtz stamp platform is indispensable in creating the evenly spaced images and lining everything up perfectly. The boards are colored with Copic Markers and the panel popped up on a white card base.

I hope you check out the amazing design team creations and play along with us this month!

Freshly Made Sketches #538

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #538!

I'm hosting the sketch this week and hope you have fun with it. I needed a retirement card and have been itching to use the Simply Graphic Hammock (Hamac) die for ages. It is a perfect pairing in my opinion.

The hammock is cut from white and orange cardstock and pieced together first, then the three woodgrain posts cut with a die from MFT Blueprints 17 die set.

A white panel is inked with Salty Ocean Distress Ink and a Simply Graphics Best of Summer sentiment added. Pieces of floss are adhered to each end of the hammock and the other ends tied to the post before they are adhered into place.
