Freshly Made Sketches #466

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #466!

This terrific sketch from Jen Timko really helped me throw together a last minute birthday card for my son. Every year I say I'm going to keep a stash of masculine birthday cards on hand and every year I seem to panic at the last minute looking for one.

This buffalo check patterned paper caught my eye and made me think of his favorite blanket. The Stamp Market Alphabet dies were carefully lined up to cut the first part of the sentiment before the panel was popped up over a slightly wider and narrower white panel. It's hard to see in these photos, but the edges were distressed for a little texture.

Keeping the thought of a cozy blanket, the sentiment panel is adhered to a Lifestyle Crafts Knit embossed panel before being added to a black card base.

CASology Challenge #380

Welcome to CASology Challenge #380!

Our last challenge for 2020 has us playing with a classic winter image. Whether you are still making holiday cards or have moved onto thank you cards or are replenishing the always needed supply of birthday cards, snowman images are fun to use.

A Papertrey Ink Snowman die cut was the starting point for this design. It is easy to keep the design clean and simple when you layer white on white and only add a few touches of color. Texture from the embossed background and woodgrain cardstock arms add interest.

Freshly Made Sketches #465

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #465!

I'm hosting the challenge this week and was inspired by a week of tag making to use one as the focal point of the sketch.

An MFT Blueprint Tag Builders tag is cut from watercolor paper and colored with a Zig Real Brush marker. While it dried, a panel is embossed with snowflakes and the bells and snowflake charm tied together. After the Mama Elephant Jingle Greetings sentiment is added to the dry tag it is popped up on the panel and added to a bright pink card base.

I'm excited to see what you do with the sketch this week! Head over to Freshly Made Sketches for more inspiration.

Freshly Made Sketches #464

 Welcome Freshly Made Sketches #464!

Maybe it's because we rarely get a white Christmas in real life that I love every snowflake stamp, die, stencil, embossing folder and, yes, even sequins, that I see. They were all out on my desk this week as I worked to create a design using the fabulous sketch from Judy!

The PTI Silver White Winters snowflake takes center stage and is popped up over a vellum embossed square. Two corners are rounded for a bit of interest. The main panel is embossed with the same SU/Sizzix Falling Snow embossing folder.

The Hero Arts Christmas Sentiment is an experiment with both white and holographic embossing powders combined creating a bit of an ombre look. Pretty Pink Posh tiny sequins and snowflakes finish the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #463

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #463!

I'm knee deep in Christmas cards and loved that Amy's sketch for this week had me reaching for the designer paper pads. Once I decided on the Hero Arts Poster Christmas Carols sentiment taking center stage it was easier to narrow down which papers to use.

To help the eye rest and the sentiment stand out, a couple of monochromatic patterned papers were cut with MFT Fishtail Flag dies and attached to the sentiment panel. This whole panel is then popped up over the gift patterned panel.

CASology Challenge #379

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #379!

I love a Cue word that can inspire a color palette, an event or an image. My thought process week was autumn harvest, then Thanksgiving, then thanks in general, then an ombre of wheat color and it all came together using Concord & 9th Give Thanks stamps and dies.

The leaf die is cut three times and layered, leaving the grains in place, along the side of a kraft panel. The sentiment is stamped using Memento Espresso Truffle ink on a stitched panel and popped up over the wheat for interest and dimension.

Freshly Made Sketches #462

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #462!

How fun is Narelle's sketch this week! I saw the offset trio of squares as a stack of holiday photos and immediately pulled out MFT Sun Lovin' Santa stamp set and a small square die.

To reinforce the idea these are holiday photos, a thin edge of the square was masked off before the images were stamped and colored with Copic markers. The embossed panel adds interest and a modern vibe to the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #461

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches 461!

Clean Team design Karren Johnson has given us a classic sketch that provides plenty of freedom to customize. Continuing with Christmas cards, a Hero Arts Peace & Joy sentiment was heat embossed with Ranger Holographic embossing powder on a white panel before inking it with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink.

The Poppystamps Snowflake Breeze die is cut from Lawn Fawn Pixie Dust sparkle cardstock and adhered along the left edge. All that was left to do is pop this panel on a white card base using foam adhesive and take a few photos. The glitter from the snowflake die cut and embossed sentiment made my poor camera almost give up on getting a focussed photo.

CASology Challenge #378

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #378!

I pulled out my Savvy Deer Head die and cut it once with Lawn Fawn Woodgrain cardstock and a couple times in white. The antlers were trimmed off a bit on the bottom two die cuts before stacking them together to leave room to weave the silver thread through them.

I planned to use a white card base but ran into a problem with the woodgrain paper being a different shade of white from all six of the white cardstocks in my stash! I didn't want to add another color to the design but really love the way this Soft Stone color works with the silver thread and blue bells. A fun heat embossed MFT Bitty Christmas Greetings sentiment finishes the card.

Freshly Made Sketches #460

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #460!

Judy is the Clean Team designer behind our fabulous sketch this week! I have definitely moved into Christmas mode and had a few different ideas whirling through my head with this design. Ornaments and stockings were on my desk before the MFT Bitty Holiday Wishes sentiment caught my eye and I pulled out an old Papersmooches die set.

Can I blame the change back to Standard Time for the difficulty in photographing this card? The red glitter enamel dots are so pretty in real life!

Freshly Made Sketches #459

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #459!

Jennifer Brum had designed a very fun sketch for us this week! The bottom panels reminded me of tissue paper wrapped around a bouquet and I went with that idea, morphing it into an explosion of holiday foliage instead of a bouquet.

Papertrey Ink Spruces and Sprigs images were stamped and cut first, then a few extra die cuts made with cardstock and shimmer cardstock to help fill out the vellum pocket.

Kerry Bradford Bundle Up stamp set provided the sentiment and it is attached with a simple pearl.

CASology Challenge #377

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #377!

I love the color explosion of a great sunset and have been hoping for years to see the green flash that is present about ten minutes before the sun goes over the horizon. I hadn't heard of this phenomenon before living in San Diego, but our vast uninterrupted ocean horizon apparently makes it more common to see.

A circle of Mustard Seed Distress Ink is blended on a very light gray panel, before a bit of Marmalade Spice Distress Ink is added to the top portion and the Simon Says Stamp All Seasons Tree die cut is adhered over it.

As you can see, most of the leaves are not adhered to the panel, adding a bit of dimension and interest to the design. The Altenew Thinking of You sentiment finishes the card.

The design team has terrific cards to inspire you!

Freshly Made Sketches #458

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #458!

I am in love with Kim's fabulous sketch this week! I immediately saw the five panels as five letters and spend more time than I should admit deciding whether to make a birthday or holiday card. As you can see, Christmas won out this week.

Of course, I also spent more time than I should admit deciding what colors to use for The Stamp Market Chunky Alphabet letters and ended up stacking a three color ombre for each letter with a different shade of pink and aqua at the top. The Hero Arts Merry sentiment is stamped on the rectangle panel first and then it is embossed with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Snowflake embossing folder.

A couple snowflake die cuts were adhered to the card base and the panel popped up over them. A scattering of smaller snowflakes and a bit of Wink of Stella on the letters finish this card.

I hope you check out the terrific Clean Team designs at Freshly Made Sketches and join in the fun this week!

Freshly Made Sketches #457

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #457!

Linda has give us a great layered design to work with this week! I have been wanting to use The Stamp Market Greenery dies for a while and thought this center panel would be a great place to showcase them.

I cut a few die cuts in fall colors and played around a bit with layering them on the linen embossed panel. My first plan was to dry emboss the second panel until I became distracted by a discarded stenciled panel leftover from another project. The stenciled panel is cut down to fit the sketch and the MFT Essential Sentiments message is heat embossed and popped up over the greenery.
