Freshly Made Sketches #433

Jen Mitchell's fabulous sketch had me pulling out inks and stencils to play around with a few ideas this week. In the end it was Tim Holtz Paint Splatter stencil along with Mustard Spice and Peacock Feather Distress Inks that created my favorite combination.

The Altenew Label Love sentiment fit with the splatter and is a welcome addition to the always thin pile of masculine cards.

CASology Challenge #367: MAGICAL

There are some really fun ways to go with the challenge from magical creatures or places to a magical season, I hope you will join us this week!

The Santa's sleigh image is stamped first and a night sky inked around it before layering a second panel cut with a Memory Box border die cut on top. The Hero Arts Kelly Purkey sentiment is stamped on the left over piece of that panel, cut to create a hillside and added to the scene. Nuvo drops provide a bit of soft snow, texture and interest to the design.

Check out the terrific design team cards!

Freshly Made Sketches #432

How fun is this sketch from Jen Timko? The first thing I saw was a wreath so I went searching through my dies for an open circle shape to use as a base, landing on MFT's Stitched Circle Scallops.

I cut a few Spellbinders and Poppystamps feathers from a leftover piece of watercolored paper. These were layered on the black frame along with a few sequins and Pretty Pink Posh jewels. A fun find with my feather dies was this older MFT Accent It - Feather & Arrows arrow die that is used to create the horizontal line above the Altenew Thinking of You sentiment.

I hope you are all hanging in there with the current stay home restrictions. Crafting has definitely been one of my outlets during this time.

I look forward to seeing your cards fill the gallery at Freshly Made Sketches!

Freshly Made Sketches #431

I knew as soon as I saw Lee Ann's sketch this week that I was going to make rainbow shaker cards for a couple young ladies I've been missing during our stay at home orders.

Three of The Stamp Market Rainbow Stripes dies are used on the white rectangle panels with foam adhesive added between the channels. The Queen & Co Toppings & Pearl Toppings are sealed in place with a second white panel.

Each girl is getting a rainbow of her favorite colors. The MFT sentiments are heat embossed on banners and adhered across the rainbow with a sweet little heart finishing off each card.

The Clean Team has fabulous cards to inspire you this week. I hope you find some creative time and play along with us!

CASology Challenge #366: ZODIAC

I don't have any specific zodiac, astrology or astronomy images in my collection so started off thinking I would play with either stars or animals this week. I have plenty of crab, lion and fish images to work with to create a birthday card for a Cancer, Leo or Pisces friend. Looking at the Chinese zodiac opens up even more options. Along with birthday cards, I thought it would be fun to look at romantic pairings which lead me into the four elements of the zodiac.

I'm not sure earth and water are considered an ideal match in astrology, but Stefan and I will be celebrating 25 years next month so I created an anniversary card for us.

The earth symbol is created with a small triangle die cut and a snipped piece of a Poppystamps Frieda Leaf die cut and paired with an MFT Color Drop die cut and pair of circles for the water symbol. Once again, my MFT Essential Sentiments stamp set is used.

The design team has great inspiration for you this week!

Freshly Made Sketches #430

I designed our sketch this week and was inspired by a rarely used Spellbinders die set that I ran across while rearranging a few things in the office.

I stamped and heat embossed the Rubbernecker Stamps Layered Poppy outline on a piece of watercolor paper and colored it with Zig Real Brush markers.

The dry panel is die cut into the diamond shape along with a pair of black die cuts for layering. The next biggest diamond gave too thick of a border and I liked the look of the open side points that came with layering instead. Am MFT Greetings & Salutations sentiment and trio of Pretty Pink Posh jewels finish off the design.

The Clean Team has done an outstanding job with this sketch! I hope you are inspired to work with different shaped panels on your cards. If you are a fan of clean and simple designs, the current challenge at CASology is KITE, which could fit in nicely with our sketch!

Freshly Made Sketches #429

As a knitter, I saw Judy's fun sketch as a trio of yarn balls. As a stamper, I was thrilled to finally ink up my Paper Rose Knit Happens stamp set. I only used two of the images, stamping the center one and masking it to add the same ball of yarn behind it twice.

For added interest, inked modeling paste is swiped on a panel using the Paper Rose Cable Knit Sweater stencil. Once it dried, it is added to a green card base and the partially fussy cut stamped panel popped up over it. A scatter of green sequins finished off the design.

The Clean Team has great cards to inspire you at Freshly Made Sketches - I hope you join in the fun!
