Another Moxie Fab World Washi Tape Challenge Card

I'm dropping by to quickly post another card for the Moxie Fab World Washi Tape Challenge to celebrate the new issue of Card Creations.

I have somehow accumulated a sizable Washi Tape collection and really tried to think of different ways to use it.

Like so many ideas, this isn't what I thought I was going to end up with, but I love the layers of leaves and how the translucency of the We R Memory Keepers washi tape allows the tree trunk and branches to be seen.

A simple Papertrey Ink banner & sentiment finish off the card.

Because Anything Goes over at the Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog this week, I am also linking this card up there.

Thanks for stopping by,

CASology + MFTWSC117 + Simon Says

Two things have conspired to really mess up my schedule this week: first, the kids have been on Spring Break and second, my dear husband has been coming home well before dinner.

If I see my husband in the afternoon, my mind says "it must be the weekend". I mean, it is Saturday morning now and he just called to say he is on the way home from checking on a project. The really exciting news for us is his office moved this week, so when I get the call he just left the office it means I see him in 15-20 minutes instead of 60-90 minutes (unless the fair is on, then add another 30-60 minutes).

This is my longwinded way to say I thought last night was Sunday and that I'd missed the CASology deadline.

Turns out I didn't, so here is the card I created.

The CASology Cue this week was "hope" and I made a CAS get well card that is heading off to a cousin.

This next card is based on the My Favorite Things sketch #117 - details of their weekly challenge can be found on the MFT Forum at Splitcoaststampers.

I have a few nieces & nephews that are either graduating or at a crossroad right now, so this will be heading off to one of them. I kept it very CAS and even used one of the brads that has hidden in my stash for years.

Because Anything Goes at Simon Says Stamp this week, I will link up the first card over there.

Happy Easter to all of those celebrating this weekend. There is a big gap between Western & Orthodox Easters this year, so we are still in the middle of Lent and looking forward to our lamb roast on May 5th.

Jacquie

Muse + Colour Q + Chevron + Washi

Hi everyone, today I have two cards for four challenges.

The first is a new challenge for me and a little different. The Muse challenge only asks that you explain how the Muse card of the week inspired your creation - your are not tied to any style or specific products. This challenge club also requires all participants to be active in commenting on other entries and even voting for their favorites - I like these ideas a lot!

All the rules and current Muse Card by Ardyth Percy-Robb can be found over here.

I decided to use the  Colour Q Challenge #182 palette and kept changing my mind how I was going to use the colors.

As you can see, I loosely used Ardyth's idea of circular shapes above and below the stamped sentiment. The three strips of washi tape help bring in all the colors of the palette and add a few more geometric shapes.

This card is also being linked to the Washi Tape Challenge at Moxie Fab World to celebrate the most recent issue of Card Creations.

My second card is one I came across while cleaning my desk earlier this week.

It is another in the series I call "Blueprint Cupcakes". This time I paper pieced the cupcake - the cupcake holder, background panel and sentiment panel are all made with chevron patterned papers.

I am not sure why I missed it when I posted the earlier cards, but I want to add it to the Moxie Fab Chevron Challenge that is coming to a close soon.

Make It Monday + Tuesday Trigger + Simon Says

I combined the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #109: Watercolor Stamping Plus Embossing with the Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger: Pastel Pretties.

Cath at MFW posted this inspiration photos of Jordan Almonds which completely make me think of Greek weddings and baptisms. I'm sure they are used by other cultures too, but I don't remember seeing them before I married into a Greek Orthodox family.

Betsy Veldman has a great video tutorial for layering embossing on stamped watercolor images that you can check out at Capture the Moment.

Taking the color palette from the Tuesday Trigger image, a number of Distress Inks are used to randomly stamp the second image from The Sweet Life rose cluster around the perimeter of a white panel. The third rose image is then inked with Versamark and that image heat embossed over the watercolor roses.

The leaf images were inked and embossed the same way and a Big Favorites sentiment fills in the center space.

The butterflies are punched from a water colored panel using the same colors as the roses and scattered across the card front.

Since Anything Goes at Simon Says Stamp this week, I am also linking up there.

Jacquie

Papertrey Ink March Blog Hop - Take Two

This is my second card for the PTI March Blog Hop.

Blog-hop-logo

Nichole Heady challenged us to use sequins on a project this month. All the details can be found over at Capture the Moment and you still have time to join in the fun!

March-blog-hop-inspiration

Do you find yourself going back and forth between color palettes, shades and intensities? After working with the soft pinks and doilies in the MME paper for my last card,  I was drawn to these intense, saturated colors from an Authentique line.

This time the starting point was purple sequins adhered to the smallest shape in the Lovely Layers die set to create a flower center.

The flower is built out from the center (with the layers moved around and reorganized a few times) and a sentiment is created with PTI's Headline Alphabet and Wonderful Words dies.

OK, it is confession time - I had a problem with the unfinished look of the sequin flower. Just like I have a very hard time not threading button holes, I needed to find a way to cover the holes in the sequins.

These red gems from my stash fit with the other intense colors and nestled into the sequins nicely. Maybe next time I'll try a few French Knots.

I can't wait to check out what everyone else has created!

Papertrey Ink March 2013 Blog Hop

I can't believe it is time for another PTI Blog Hop - this year is flying by way too quickly!

The challenge this month is to use sequins on a project. Head over to Capture the Moment for all the details and join in the fun!

Blog-hop-logo

March-blog-hop-inspiration

I have used sequins a few times on cards and tags in place of gems, but decided to start with the sequins for today and design cards around them.

The sequins needed a base, so I pulled out PTI's Friendship Jar stamp set and die. The jar is stamped on a scrap of chevron patterned paper and a layer of coarse glitter glued down. When the glitter dried a few pink and silver sequins are randomly adhered, more loose sequins and clear confetti were added and the die cut panel seals it all in place.

I will be back in a little while with my second card for the Blog Hop before I head out and check everyone else's creations!

CAS-ual Fridays + CASology + MFTWSC

I'm back with three cards to share today.

The first is for the CASual Fridays Challenge #94 to use chipboard.

CFC94: Use chipboard on your Clean And Simple creation

I have also sorts of little chipboard pieces tucked away - they keep making the cut every time I purge the office, but really rarely get used.

I am loving the way this came out. The chipboard banner pieces & hearts are from Maya Road and covered with MME designer paper.

The CASology Cue Card this week is "Song" and my card came together pretty quickly once I'd settled on a song.

My inspiration is "Home" by Phillip Phillips and the image and sentiment are both from Papertrey Ink.

The final card is for the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club at Splitcoaststampers. You can head over to the MFT Forum for all the details of this sketch challenge.

Are you getting tired of me using the cake & candle from Who's That Birthday Girl yet? It is too much fun to stop and makes a great quick and easy birthday card!

I love masking & stamping the single candle to get the variety of lengths and angles. A touch of stickles are sparkle to the flame.

Jacquie

Tuesday Trigger: Elegant Emerald + Make It Monday #108: Inked Backgrounds

I have a couple of cards to share today and first up is the Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger: Elegant Emerald.

There is so many ways to go with this inspiration image, but the first thing that jumped out a me was that gold belt, which led to this card.

I can't believe the Quilled Elegance stamp set didn't catch my eye when first released by Papertrey Ink, but after watching Joyce at Cards-by-the-Sea use it, it fell into my cart last month.

I used Versamark ink with a gold, glitter embossing powder to stamp the image and colored it in with Copic markers.

The next card I made for PTI's Make It Monday #108: Inked Backgrounds. This week Heather Nichols demonstrated a couple of different ways to create a unique inked background and I used the resist ink technique on this card.

I randomly stamped images from the Funky Florals set with Versamark and clear embossing powder and then inked the panel with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink creating an ombre pattern.

A Half & Half die cut and Birthday Bash stamp make up the sentiment panel.

This card is also being linked to the Moxie Fab World Ombre Challenge - there is still time to play along!

CAS(E) This Sketch #19 Meets Mini Blueprint Stamps

I'm still working on a set of gift cards that need to get in the mail by Monday. They need to be clean & simple, so decided to use the CAS(E) this Sketch! #19 sketch today. The details of this challenge blog can be found here.

I made a couple of cards, but this is my favorite so far:

These Mini Blueprint stamps might just have a permanent spot on my desk! They are part of the Tim Holtz Collection from Stampers Anonymous and I am lucky enough to have local scrapbook and stamp stores that carry them, but they are also available online at Simon Says Stamp. I haven't felt so much love for a set of stamps in ages.

This is the first image I stamped, colored & cut today, but I struggled with where to add a sentiment banner.

After going onto card 2 (and a different struggle), I came back to this one and pulled out a MFT sentiment & die and stamped on a light blue vellum.

The sentiment lifts off the stamped panel and the adhesive is hidden by a couple of gems.

Here is the second image I stamped & first card I finished today. The struggle with this card was to find a the right tone & shade of pink in my patterned paper stash to go under the image panel.

A wood grain pink pattern from American Crafts finally made it to the top of the pile - after using vellum for the banner on the other card, I kind of wish I'd used it here too.

And, just because I can,  I am sharing a card I made last weekend with the same blueprint stamp.

I have a few more cards to get done so it's back to the office for me!

Jacquie

MFW Chevron Challenge

I have been going through some of my older paper pads trying to decide whether to hang on to them or sign up for a local scrapbook store garage sale and clear out some of my stash. The problem is, every time I go through the paper I find something I like.

Here is a chevron pattern I found last night and immediately thought of Cath's Chevron Challenge at Moxie Fab World to celebrate the new issue of Card Creations.

To create a larger chevron pattern, I cut the paper in strips along the peaks of the chevron and then rearranged them on a piece of yellow patterned paper. There is a slight gap between the paper strips to add a bit of dimension and interest.

I trimmed the new panel along the edge of the chevron and added a birthday sentiment with foam adhesive.

You have until the end of the month to join in the fun - there are always great challenges to choose from at Moxie Fab World!

Make It Monday #107: Clear Cards & Copics

I am back with a card that definitely took me more than the 10 minutes I spent on yesterday's post.

The PTI Make It Monday challenge was to make a clear card and use copic markers. You can see the details and video tutorial here. Am I the last to know PTI has identified trios of Copic colors that match their cardstock and ink colors?

I gave up trying to get a good photo of the card standing - there was just way to much glare and reflected images. The PTI Destination stamp set and Fabulous Frames dies are used to create the front of the card.

My original idea was to stamp and color directly onto the clear front, but my inks didn't co-operate!

When I walked away from the card yesterday, there was no sentiment or embellishments on the front panel and it just looked unfinished.

This morning I added the sentiment and a combination of brads and an enamel dot to finish it off. You can see how the globe and frame are floating on the front of the card.

The inside of the front of the card had die cut cardstock pieces adhered to it - these hide the adhesive used for the front pieces.

The inside of the card has another sentiment from the Destinations Stamp set and the green cardstock is adhered to the outside of this piece.

Cath at Moxie Fab World has some great challenges going on until the end of the month to celebrate the new Card Creations issue, so I am entering this card in The Chevron Challenge

A couple of you were asking where I took my snowy photo last weekend that you can see here - we were at Bailey's Resort on Palomar Mountain. This is what the mountain looks with fresh snow from my house, so you can see I wasn't too far from home.

Retro + CASology + 10 Minute Craft Dash + Moxie Fab Washi Challenge

I think I need to treat every card I make as a 10 Minute Craft Dash and the bonus is this one combines four challenges!

I had the retrosketch #54  in mind and pulled out a couple of Distress Inks and cardstock, stamps and washi tape and set the stop watch to see if I could pull this off.

In real life the greens are a closer match, but doubling up the washi tape did make a more intense shade.

CD_13

The "phone home" idea came from the CASology Cue Card: Extraterrestrial - ET was the first thing that came to my mind and I love any excuse to use one of the Mini Blueprint stamps.

Cath at Moxie Fab World has issued a number of challenges to celebrate Card Creations Week, including the Washi Tape Challenge.  The ribbon on this card is made by taking a long strip on washi tape and folding the sticky sides in on itself.

The result is almost a waxy feeling ribbon that I tied into a bow.

The final time for this one was just under 9 minutes and most of that time was fishing for letters to stamp the sentiment and folding the washi tape!

I'll be back later with a "way more than 10 minutes" card that I am taking a break from.

Jacquie

CAS-ual Friday + Paper Smooches + MFTWSC115

What did we do before cell phones & texting? Our school commute was turned upside down last week when the local light rail train was suddenly and very unexpectedly taken out of service. Day two of using the new Express Bus service and it is late, so while I wait for my daughter to text me an update on their location I am going to try post a couple of cards.

The Paper Smooches sketch and CASual Fridays Challenge to color block combined nicely to create this card.

The images are from PS My Peeps stamp set and colored with Copics, fussy cut and added to the card stock panels.

CFC93: Use blocks of color in your Clean And Simple creations.
As always, projects are NOT limited to just cards :)

My second card is for the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club at Splitcoaststampers - you can find all the details on the MFT Forum.

I used the cake image from the MFT Who's That Birthday Girl stamp set, masking and stamping the single candle stamp numerous times - I really love the look of the uneven candles! They are colored with copics and the flames sparkle with Stickles.

Dear Daughter is almost at our meeting point, so I have to run!
