We stayed home and dined on lobster & sushi - a bit eclectic maybe, but everyone here was happy. Sadly, my dear son declared he isn't going to have children so he can afford lobster every day. I am hoping he will see it doesn't need to be an either/or decision and that there could be room for both lobster and children in his future LOL.
I had a pretty good "to do" list yesterday, but ignored it for a while when I saw the Make it Monday post on Capture the Moment. Betsy Veldman demonstrated her Chalkboard Technique and I just had to give it a try.
My first couple of attempts at this technique involved way too much masking & stamping and embossing powder was ending up where it wasn't supposed to, so I decided to take it down a notch and try at least get one card I could use.
There will be no close ups of the sentiment panel because there is still too many stray dots of embossing powder, but at least I have a card one of the dear children can use for a friend.
I stamped the banner first, using my Banner Builder stamp set, and heat embossed this before masking and stamping the "celebrating your" above it. I really found I needed to heat emboss as I went along or risk spreading embossing powder everywhere.
The sentiment stamps are both from Movers and Shakers sentiments and the candle is from Birthday Bash sentiments.
A few Prisma pencils are used to color in the banner and draw a line around the panel.
In the end, I really enjoyed the technique and plan on playing with it a bit more.

ReplyDeleteI heat embossed all at once like Betsy did but still managed to get small dots of embossing powder on my card even using the anti static pouch.
I saw this on the PTI blog earlier but didn't get to comment ... how fun to use the banners with the chalkboard technique! Great way to break up the sentiments. And darn that black cardstock for making white specks stand out more than we'd like! If there aren't too many, sometimes I carefully dot a black marker over them. It's like magic, if you don't look too close that is : )

Great card! I love how you added the color and used the banner images. I can totally relate to the stray embossing powder. I kept telling myself again and again that chalk art is supposed to be a bit "messy" and imperfect. It adds character, right? ;)
